What is Inbox by Gmail?

Inbox by Gmail is an email service, developed by Google, which was initially announced for an invitation-only basis on October 22, 2014, and was publically released on May 28, 2015.

It was accessible through web and android or ios mobile apps as well, which put a scope on improving email productivity by providing certain features like bundling and gathering emails with same topics together, highlighting main key details from an email, reminders, assists and snooze functionality.

After certain updates to the services, was added a "Smart Reply" feature that automatically generated short replies as the suggestion for certain types of emails. Later on, it was also integrated with Google Calander for event management and a save to inbox feature that let users save links for using it later in the near future.

Gmail's revival of Inbox

Gmail inherits Inbox's essential features
Inbox is not completely going away, The last Gmail update had been the revival of Inbox where Gmail went some cosmetic and algorithmic changes, since then most of the useful features from the Inbox is integrated within Gmail like -

> Snoozing emails: Snooze emails and reminders to temporarily remove them from your inbox until you need them.

> Nudges: Gmail moves old messages back to the top when it thinks you want to follow up with them.

> Hower Actions: Quickly taking action by hovering the mouse cursor over an email, without having to open that email.

> Smart Reply: Gmail shows certain phrases with particular types of email to reply instantly, without having to type anything.

Conclusion

Yet another Google service is about to shut down along with the sunsetting of Google Plus, but Inbox is not off completely, as its most of the important features are already imported into Gmail. So Google does not think there's a need for an app that scans your Gmail and does certain things when Gmail is already capable of managing those tasks by itself.
